Cynthia Tomaszewski is the Designer and Owner of Simple Pleasures, a pattern company which currently markets over 50 different quilting designs. Truly an Instructor, Author, Designer, and Lecturer on an international level, Cynthia has taught and lectured in the United States, Turkey, Indonesia, and the United Arab Emirates. Her designs have been featured in numerous publications such as Better Homes and Gardens American Patchwork and Quilting, Primedia's Quilt it For Kids and Quilt It for Christmas, Quilting Today, and Current. She is the author of two books: Garden Party, Applique Quilts that Bloom followed by Tea in the Garden, Quilts for a Summer Afternoon, both published by Martingale and Company/That Patchwork Place. She is a fabric designer for Chanteclaire/Henry Glass Fabrics, which are divisions of Jaftex, Inc. Her fabric lines include "Gatherings," "It's in the Seeds," and "Gypsy Caravan".
Learning to sew at the age of 10, a migration into the quilting world was natural in 1982 when she learned the traditional art of quilting from a life long quilter and native resident of the Eastern Shore of Virginia. She machine pieces and hand appliques most of her designs and hand quilts as many as time allows. She has been an active quilter for over 20 years and has sold and exhibited her work throughout her travels.
"Quilt where you are planted" is Cynthia's motto. Born in Michigan, one of six children, travel and adventure were her goals from a young age. Luckily she met a soul mate in her husband Mike. Together they have lived and traveled extensively throughout the world with their travels taking them to Mexico, Europe, Africa, the Far East, the Middle East, and the Pacific. After residing in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates for 7 years, Cynthia, Mike, and their son, Zachary, took a two year sailing hiatus and sailed their 33 foot Hans Christian sailboat through the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea to Spain.
She currently resides once again in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
